A little about the
Artist:
IBill has been
practicing his craft
for over 20 years.
It all started at a
young age where he
enjoyed lettering
and different forms
of lettering. He did
not really explore
that avenue until
1978 when he took
his first class at
the University of
New Mexico’s
Continuing Education
Program. From there
he has been taking
classes through his
calligraphy guild in
Albuquerque;
Escribiente.
Teachers have been
Dick Jackson, Mike
Kesceg, Gwen Weaver,
Denny Knight,
Michael Sull and
Bill Lilly.
The pointed pen has
been his real
favorite. His focus
has mainly been in
Engrosser’s Script
(more commonly known
as Copperplate) and
Spencerian
Handwriting. Bill
has taken several
lessons from the Pen
Master Bill Lilly.
Hoping to continue
taking lessons from
Mr. Lilly is a real
desire. Every
encounter with Mr.
Lilly is a true
enjoyment and a true
enlightening
experience. One can
not get enough of
Mr. Lilly’s time to
help expand their
learning of the
script or all the
information that Mr.
Lilly can provide.
The other script or
handwriting is
Spencerican. Bill
has taken lessons
from the Pen Master
Michael Sull.
Starting with Mr.
Sull’s week long
learning experience
in Ohio was a
wonderful start.
Then to take the
Advanced Spenerican
course was a very
wonderful and
learning experience.
This really expanded
and refined Bill’s
penmanship.
Bill has been
teaching in
Albuquerque for
several years
through Escribiente
and on his own. For
the pass three years
he has been invited
to teach at Castle
in the Air, in
Berkeley,
California. The
classes that have
been repeated
several times are
Spencerian,
Illumination and
Copperplate.
Bill is an active
member in both his
local calligraphy
guild Escribiente,
Association of
Calligraphic Arts
(ACA) and with the
International
Association of
Master Penman and
Teachers of
Handwriting
(IAMPTH).
There are several
samples of his work
on this web site.
Please look and
enjoy. If you have
any questions or
comments I would
enjoy replying to
any you may have
